I've always found it odd that despite how remarkably automated machines are in these cartoons, it still requires the manipulation of dozens of switches, levers, and buttons to operate them. I see no reason why this machine can't just have a simple on/off button, but guess that's not mad scientist-y enough, lol...

Excess buttons and levers (or just plain ol' lightning) prove you're a mad scientist. Without them, you're just a weird, old, bald guy in a white coat. Mmmhmm!

Yep... suspect some of those switches and levers don't actually do anything and are just for effect, lol...
