Maybe it can be answered by one reply so eventually it is not worth to disrupt the main threads.
I do not exactly understand what it is, how it is done, and why it is done.

boyft3...
You have asked a good question. According to my own experience & understanding, "bloating" or "bloated" is a temporary state of a belly-bulge after an excessive intake of food or beverage. Bloating can also refer to air or "gas" trapped in the system. After the food, liquid or air has passed, there will be no more bulge. Being fat or flabby, on the other hand is a more permanent (but reversible) condition.

Does bloating eventually lead to an expansion of the stomach, so you can intake more food?

To keep the answer short and simple, yes, but generally only if it's food and not a liquid.

That's not right. The "professional eaters" (the people, who regularly take part in eating-contest) train with bottles of water. So a liquid can also raise the stomach.
