Sanctuary and Stargate: Atlantis

I just saw the series finale of Stargate: Atlantis, I was really happy with the ending and how there will be a new series, Stargate: Universe.

As for the Sanctuary season finale, I'll just say I was speechless for about 10 minutes afterwards.

I've only watched the series on and off, can you watch the finale without having seen the rest of the series in it's entirety?

yes and no,
I think you could pick it up with some difficulty, but watching it as a whole makes it a bit clearer, like characters, some people might not be familiar with Todd, or Rhonan, or Samantha Carter

atlantis (and sanctuary since it comes on right after) is just about my only regular show...and now it's over ;(...looking forward to the atlantis TV movie and SG: universe though (and i think there's another SG-1 movie on the way too)

I've seen both series on and off throughout the years, I was just curious if I could watch the finale without having watched Atlantis religiously.
