Well, let's try this, eh?

Anyone interested in entering, please state your intent here so we can have some perspective on how large a contest this is going to be.

The contest is to write a short story or excerpt of no more than 2000 words that fits theme - A Secret Revealed Accidentally.

Submissions may be posted to this thread, and after such time as the contest closes, a date to be established later, a poll will be created to select the winning entry.

An intriguing idea. I'd certainly be interested.

Does it have to be that theme? I like the idea, but maybe we could have a bit more of a choice of what our stories are going to be about. Would they have to be about gaining?

The stories would absolutely not have to be about gaining. The stories don't even have to centre on the theme - but that's the whole challenge of the writing contest, how to fit the theme into the story. You can write an entire story about a fly that lives in your attic, and have the very last paragraph be your searching in drawers for a flyswatter and accidentally discovering adoption papers showing that your parents aren't who you thought they were. Then go back to focus on the fly, and make the narration play the adoption off as a minor thing. For example.

I will not use the above story idea, feel free to take it.

Sound fair?
