It affected mine for the last six years. I always ate worse durring school than I did over the summer (If I don't make an effort durring the summer I only eat Ramen, Dinner, Tortilla chips).

Well, no... i got by scooter, and there is a shop nearby so i can buy a lot of fatty stuff there ;) .. so basicly, school just helps me gain :D + im less active in school then during holidays. :D

Durring the school year I'd get off the bus a stop early and make a stop at a mexican Bakery with VERY cheap prices. I could afford this 2-3 times a week, so yeah my gain was bigger durring school.

I voted not sure... At school, I'm sitting most of the time, and eat more when I get home, so probably on the good yes side of not sure...

That sucks ever so much, at our schools it's required...first two year, I took it over summer school with friends both. And I think they mean do you eat more being in school or eat less or whatever?

I'd take PE over the summer but...
A: This is mid-California, it gets about 105 every day in summer.
B: If you are insane enough to take PE willingly in the summer, it doesn't even account for anything in school.
Well, once I get my driver's licence I can stop every day after school at McDonald's...and pack on the pounds.
Haha, Big Gay Al.

School hasn't been nice to my waist line. I put on five pounds in a month, But that seems to be the effect of a quart of chicken fried rice and 2 coke and a candybar a day

This last year of college has been good to me. I have had a lot of access to food and with most of the guys around me starting to gain weight too, there is less pressure to stop gaining. I am hoping to gain another 20 pounds in the next three months of school. I started school two years ago and weighed about 120 pounds. I am 5'8" and so I was pretty scrawny. I am still pretty thin. I am only 140. I have one more year and I hope to be 170-185 by the end of it.

High school PE. Every day except one. Sucks.
I can't wait for summer when physical activity can be minimized. Also, our campus is so huge, it takes a great amount of time to walk between classes, and always toting huge backpacks.
School is definitely not gainer-condusive.

Takes me three minutes to walk from second period (animation) to third (PE). Bleaurgh...it sucks...and PE is just horrid.

Yeah, walking is the worst part of school. I am in college and so I have to walk pretty far each day because all of my classes are in different buildings. The good thing is that they have vending machines in every building and you can eat in class.

Lucky you. My high school is largely a "no food in class" kind of place. And our vending machines get locked after school. No idea why; it's not like everyone just goes home.

School is the only place I get normal meals. Like this last weekend - two days - I ate 3 things that could be classed as meals because my mom either dosen't cook or makes things I don't like.

My school is so uptight about what they serve us and the selection blows (Drinks include warm, paste-like milkshake). I gain more at home, I hate living in the UK.

It's true what they say about college. It really does help you gain weight. I honestly walked everywhere, but always had 3 meals a day. Never realy stuffed myself, and in half a semester gained 10 lbs. So school was good for me so far.

This is one ot the things im afraid of if i gain wait kids will make fun of me and I wont be able to get a g/f so thats why I said I think im gonna wait tell the end of colledge where who really cares... and our school is extremly strict about food... For example we can no longer have nachos because of the cheese and they can no longer serve pancakes because of the syrup... pretty dumb huh?

My old school in Upper Michigan used to be a really good place for gaining. Practically everything there was deep fryed in fat, and most days I would get two lunches. I recently moved to Central Wisconsin, and I personally don't like it here, mainly because I don't have any friends here, they are all where I used to live. Here it seems they have only crap for lunch, so I didn't really care to eat much of it so I actually lost some weight because of my new school.

Frankly, it doesn't make too much of a difference for me. I guess I do slightly better in the Summer because I have more free time to do whatever I want. During the school year, I have to eat whatever my mother packs for lunch. During the Summer, it's not much better. Both of my parents work from home (my mom for HP, and my dad owns his own business). My dad doesn't care, but my mom does. So it doesn't make too much of a difference.

I think I'm doing better since it's summer then I would if I was in school. This summer especially because my parents have been going camping with their friends a lot, which leaves me with the house and freedom to eat what and when I please. School on the other hand leaves me with packed lunches and working on homework / studying that takes up a lot of my time.

I'm not too sure how much being in high school affected my gaining attempts, but College has been great. I've got access to at least three big meals a day, not to mention the random junk food I can get at the mart next to the dining hall.

Well going to "school" (college) but only physically have classes two nights a week. My other two classes are online and tend to have a snack handy while I'm doing the classwork on the computer, so if anything it's helping a little. My two physical classes I tend to grab fast food before I head out (lately been having the Pastrami Burger at Carl's Jr., love that thing) and that's starting to help keep up the calorie intake too.

I've just started uni here in the UK...so I get to eat what / when I want! :D
But here they've recently been getting really strict with school dinners...I think they're gonna ban chips, crisps etc pretty soon. Or if not, they'll restrict them to being served about once a week. Well that's what I think is happening..It's going on in infant's / junior / senior schools (age 5-7ish, 7-11ish and 11-16ish, if I remember rightly), not universities.

it's nice to live in chicago (Fattest state ftw!) i'm 175-ish and on the very low spectrum of fat kids. I have really bad food allergies, so I can't really change my diet during school. I guess I would have to say it helps a little, because there is less physical activity (I get out of gym because of marching band and 7 academic courses.) Lots of encouragement at school too- role models.

I believe it all varies by individuality and based on indicators. You have students attend schools were they have enrichment classes that help them cope with such problems or not that but classes that provide consistent physical activity. But then again you have those who attend schools that barely have funding for the hiring of such professionals to provide physcial actibity at least once a week.
Look at our school systems. You have children coming out with diabetes 2 whihc was commonly found in adults only in the past. There is also a lot of kids that are inactive and come from home environments where food is the leading fact of life.
School did have some king of impact but there was more to it. You decide what to put in your mouth.

Barnabas Collins
7th March 2007, 04:58 PM
Basically it seems that there are only a few factors for school. I believe that for most cases the following will help you realize if school hunders gaining.
First off, the gym teacher. Does he/she care? How often you have him/her. Do you take gym or have to do sports?
Secondly, the distance between classes. Running across campus a lot or running up and down the stairs all day?
Thirdly, the food. Are you allowed to bring lunches? How is the cafeteria food? Can you eat during classes?
For me. I swim and play lacrosse both varsity, so yeah I guess that means that I work out a lot more than I would want to if I were gaining. I'm on a pretty spend out campus, and I like taking walks all the time, so yeah the layout effects my gaining. At my college, there are a few places on campus to buy food, but you can go off campus and eat during most classes (some teachers are a little particular about the seperation of food for thought and food for gut). Luckly, I am not trying to gain for the time.

Yes school does affect my gaining lol
It's mostly because I'm really self-conscious, and also because i go to private school where we have dorms and stuff (and all of the hot guys r like rite there :p). I just don't really want to change in front of that many guys and stuff, because i have lots of stretch marks, and i don't want to be made fun of more than i already am (for being gay...well no one knows...they all just suspect wat's true)....
I am also going to be going back to swimming in the fall to become a lifeguard, and I don't want to be very overweight for that.... Well from this post, you can probably tell that there are many things on my mind that are influencing my decision to try to lose weight...but i DO like myself the way I am now, well maybe i wouldn't mind having less/faded stretch marks, but everyone at my school is quite merciless at times lol...:(

5th May 2007, 04:06 AM
It does-- I get into my more workout-y phase during it (strength & conditioning is my favourite class ever, surprisingly), so I do lose a bit of weight, and the run across the damn school from the athletic hall (where I have first period, on the east end of the school on the first floor) to my locker (pretty much centre of the place, lower 500's) and then to chemistry in the upper 400's (west end of the school on the other floor) in the space of four minutes doesn't help anything. :P
But the food counteracts that, so at the end of the year, I usually come out fatter but in better shape, ironically. XD

My school actually helps with gaining. I don't really actively gain, but I sort of have gained anyways over the past school year. My school only serves fatty fried foods (yum:p ); it took me a month and a half to even find the salads there! Also, I get so much homework that I don't have time to exercise that much either. Not burning those fatty Calories always helps!

Certainly in the earlier years it did - compulsory P.E with monthly 'bleep tests' (See how many 'levels' (sets of bleeps) you can last by running 100m before a bleep, then run all the way back before the next bleep, etc. God its so hard to explain but I bloody HATED them!) meant that despite the fact I was quite big, I couldn't really get much bigger without really putting in a lot of effort.
However, being in 6th form now students are given a bit more freedom - I can leave the school at lunch (to get Fish and Chips, huzzah!) and P.E/Games is optional - you can choose to do an acitivity outside of school, which I did, but then you jusst don't turn up to it :D
Lookng forward to univeristy though, where I can eat as much as I want and when I want, depending on if I have the money...

Well, I go to university. Everybody says college makes you gain, but it actually made me lose at first. Now I'm better at controlling my time, so it doesn't affect my weight anymore. It seems nobody I know gained weight in two first semesters - amazing, isn't it?

School doesn't so much affect my gaining anymore, since I'm at university and moved out of the dorms. How it has affected it indirectly is that, being the reason for my living on my own for the first time, I am in complete control of my own food purchase and consumption for the first time.
