Does anyone agree that this board is getting really, really, really boring?
Seriously, this forum is really boring at the moment.

I totally agree. For quite a while there were some really interesting threads going on that attracted good discussion. Right now it seems to be little but "Awesome new pics"... Not that nice belly pics aren't great, but there's more to life!
Maybe (with apologies to all those "Down Under") it's just the summer doldrums... The brains are in summer nap mode...

Or on holiday?
But yes, really, really, really boring like you said.
Maybe it's because the forum is about gaining and the discussions are kept to that?
We need something...

Yeah, all gaining all the time is a big snore. On the other hand, I'm not sure what else we expect--I've always thought of the forum as a portal to knowing people personally, so that you can get into other topics and make friends. This hasn't been happening very energetically, but I've gotten to know a few guys, which was nice. A little bird suggested to me that we install a chatroom again.

I shot that bird.
I buried its remains.
Please, people here were given enough chances to use the chatroom.
The chatroom software used was also insecure, and eventually got our board hacked like 4 or 5 times.

Because we got the request like we have now previously.
And it was never, ever, ever used.
That is pretty much the same with all the requests we have actually taken on board (Journal Board, Contests, etc) where there has been very little user participation, and well, we aren't going to bother putting something up that wont be used.

Well you wern't here, and our numbers have always been consistent because many people are here for like a week before they go, or a couple of months.
We got the same kind of interest previously, just check the suggestions board.

Over a Year.
We had to dump it around August I think last year when people were hacking it.
It was around consistantly from I think 2005 (I've only been here since the start of 2006) right through to then. As soon as it was taken off due to lack of use first, then hacking afterwards people complained, even though it WAS NOT USED.

I find chat to be too high-pressure unless you actually know the people you're chatting with and there's no chance of other people sticking their nose in. With a forum you can review whatever you say to make sure it comes out how you meant it to and doesn't reveal anything you don't want to. A chat session wouldn't really add anything as far as I'm concerned. But I'm sure everyone's different, so don't write it off just 'cause I said I didn't like it.

The hacking bit is a big concern. I didn't realize it was a security risk.
Next, on Battlestar Internet Forum...

Yeah it seems the vBulletin chat programs available either
a) have wide security holes, and
b) suck ass.
IRC is out of the question, as its not easy enough for everyone to use and I dont think we can have a Java applet through vBulletin.

is there some sort of other alternative application to use or is it limited to just that one?

Well as I said, theres only one actual good one and thats the one with the security holes. The previous earlier one is completely awful and didnt always work properly. Besides, why are you so desperate for a chat room?

i'm not desperate at all. I just like to know things, in case I might have to use this information for later. I'm also just making conversation, no need for rudeness.

I didn't see that as rude. Moreso as just a sidenote question. Asking out of curiosity.

Why desperate? Because we're all pitifully isolated and romantically lonely chubby chasers swimming through a morass of high school drama or leftist colleagues or the general trauma of being a furry or being closeted or autistic or whathaveyou, (very) respectively. Naturally our only recourse is to The Box which makes what rewarding sense of community we have possible.
Probably something like that. And on a personal level, the hope of using a non-IRC port so I could actually connect to it. Damn my apartment complex and its soviet-style port blocking!

300 people begged for a chatroom, in almost the same way as people are doing now.
We finally put the chatroom up, and I only saw 2 people use it in the 1 year timespan we had it.
